Resilience and Support: Alta Employees Stand Strong in the Wake of Typhoon Gaemi

June 18, 2024

Earlier this month, Typhoon Gaemi made landfall in the Philippines, leaving behind widespread damage and hardship. Among those affected were several of our colleagues, who faced immense challenges as they navigated the aftermath. Despite the devastation, remarkable stories of resilience, community support, and unwavering strength have emerged, reflecting the close-knit bond within the Alta family.

One of those stories is from Oliver Batiforra Jr., who was at home with his partner’s father and brother when the typhoon struck. The storm destroyed their appliances, cabinets, bedding, and clothes, but amidst the loss, Oliver was moved by the overwhelming support from his Alta colleagues. “We received monetary help and emotional support from my supervisors, managers, and friends,” he shared. The compassion and understanding he experienced left a lasting impact on Oliver and his family. Now, as they begin the process of rebuilding, Oliver is working to secure loans to meet their immediate needs and remains hopeful for the future.

Dianne Meryl Macapas, another colleague affected by the storm, was at home with her three children when the typhoon hit. She lost essential items such as appliances, clothes, and school supplies, while her house sustained significant damage. Despite these challenges, Dianne remains determined to rebuild. “My biggest concern is starting over again, but I know we can make it,” she said, expressing deep gratitude for the kindness shown by her neighbors and Alta community. Though her family didn’t receive as much aid as those who evacuated to shelters, the local support network has been vital in helping them recover and clean up the damage.

Melissa Rodriguez was also forced to evacuate with her family after floodwaters overtook the first floor of her home, destroying most of their belongings. When she returned, the scene was devastating. However, Melissa found strength in the support she received from her Alta team. “Our leaders, especially my manager, made me feel that they care not only for my team’s performance but for my family’s safety as well,” she said. The financial assistance from Alta provided crucial relief, helping her family begin the long journey to recovery. Melissa remains grateful for the care shown by her Alta colleagues and is determined to give her best to the company that stood by her in a time of need.

The experiences of Oliver, Dianne, and Melissa are a testament to the strength of our Alta community and its commitment to standing by one another during difficult times. As they work to rebuild their lives, their stories highlight the deep care and support Alta offers its employees, both personally and professionally.

We are proud to be part of a community where kindness, resilience, and unity are at the forefront, and we will continue to stand with our colleagues as they recover from the effects of Typhoon Gaemi.
