Alta Resources & Sustainability
Alta Resources is mindful and cognizant of our impact on the environment and society as a whole. We are committed to minimizing negative environmental impacts by acting sustainably. We strive to be good neighbors, care for our people, and lessen our impact on the environment, helping ensure future generations have the ability to meet their own needs.
In an effort to maintain continuous improvement, we are dedicated to promoting sustainability in the business areas mentioned below.
Alta Resources Sustainability Efforts in 2022 :
Environment
Our goal is to track and minimize negative impacts on the environment by reducing energy consumption, paper use and solid waste generation, air travel, and water use.
Carbon Footprint
- 4,497 tons of CO2 emissions during 2022
- 3,873 average employees during this time
- 1.1 tons of CO2 emissions per employee
Using Renewable Energy
- Generating electricity from renewable energy sources has been shown to reduce air pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions. In 2021, 3.0% of our electricity at our Neenah, WI, headquarters came from renewable sources such as wind and solar panels.
Recycling e-Waste
- Used computers, phones, and other electronic equipment that aren’t disposed of properly can leach harmful toxins into landfills and groundwater. To conserve natural resources and protect the communities in which we live and work, Alta partners with Iron Mountain, a global leader in storage and information management services, to recycle our defunct electronic devices. Their waste management processes are governed by a well-documented standard operating procedure, regularly updated to meet changing regulations. In 2022, Alta Resources received a certificate of recycling, data, erasure, and proper disposal of e-waste for all corporate-wide electronic waste disposal.
Saving Paper
- In 2022, through our partnership with Iron Mountain, our Green Report indicated that we recycled a total of 18.77 metric tons of shredded paper. This is equal to:
- 320 trees saved
- 131,400 gallons of water saved
- 62 cubic yards of landfill saved
Joining the UN Global Compact
- In 2024, we joined the UN Global Compact, the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. This commitment aligns with our core values and enhances our efforts to operate responsibly across human rights, labor, environment, and anti-corruption. By participating in this initiative, we aim to deepen our engagement with sustainable practices and contribute to the global movement for a better future for people and the planet.
Facilities
- In 2022, Alta opened a brand-new state-of-the-art building in our Fort Myers location. One of the key factors that influenced the direction and overall design of the building was a simple design, coupled with the use of long-life, low-maintenance sustainable materials. This equates to:
- 328,589 gallons of water saved
- 979,042 Kw of energy saved
- 8,000 pounds of pollutants kept out of the atmosphere
- 1,000 cu yds of construction waste diverted from landfill
- The innovative GLAS Tower, home to our Alta Resources Philippines offices, incorporates sustainable and ecological features within the building’s core and facade envelope. The building features a number of sustainable and environmentally friendly elements, including:
- Double-glazed, triple low-e high-performing glass windows, the first of its kind in the entire Philippines
- Highly efficient rainwater harvesting system ensuring a clean and safe non-potable water supply used for housekeeping and landscaping maintenance
- Ample bicycle parking spaces to encourage low carbon emission means of transportation
Social
Our core objective is to contribute positively to our communities and to do so in a manner that is organized, efficient, and easily accessible for all Alta Resources’ employees and entities. We want to help make all associates of Alta Resources champions of community involvement and to help impact the well-being of the places in which we live, work, and play.
Community
- Each year Alta Resources and its employees participate in the United Way Fox Cities annual fundraising campaign, ensuring assistance – monetary and time – goes to the community we live and work in. In 2022, we continued with:
- 60% employee participation rate
- More than $300,000 annually
- Over $3.6 million in total all-time contributions
